History of the Forney Food Pantry

In 1992, the Forney Food Pantry opened inside the old Forney City Jail in downtown Forney, Texas, as the New Life Food Pantry. Due to eligibility requirements of the United Way, the pantry's largest contributor, the name of the pantry was later changed to the Forney Food Pantry.

In June 2011, the pantry moved into its current location in a Mustang Business Park North warehouse which was generously provided by Sealy & Company. Moving to the larger warehouse enabled the pantry to obtain and store larger quantities of food to meet the needs of our rapidly growing community.

The Forney Food Pantry, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has relied on donations from the United Way, churches, businesses, boy and girl scout troops, and individual donors - since the beginning. The pantry continues to rely on the generosity of these great community organizations today.

In 2013, the 2013-14 Forney Leadership Class chose the Forney Food Pantry as their class project and helped make significant improvements to the pantry's building which was damaged by an EF3 tornado on April 3, 2012. Click here to read more about the class's accomplishments.

Today, the pantry continues to serve the Forney and Crandall, Texas, communities. The pantry serves an average of 189 families a month which is an increase of nearly 50% from 2012.
